Ira, Thank You for Being Among LinkedIn’s First 100,000 Members!

reid hoffman thank you for being a member email from Linkedin -- 11506

As I was working on my social media lecture for my communication class at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, I remembered a fun and quite interesting email I received from LinkedIn’s co-founder, Reid Hoffman. While it was back in 2011, it seems like an eternity in social media years.

It is the only email of its kind sent from LinkedIn that I am aware of recognizing members for when we joined.

I am member 11,506, joining on July 6, 2003. How’s that for early adopter?! LinkedIn is over 600 million today. Funny thing is, I joined because a trusted colleague invited me… not because I really knew what it was. In fact, at the time, Ryze, was THE dominant social media network in Silicon Valley. That was where I spent my social media energies.

Some 10 years later, I can not imagine what could be the LinkedIn App Killer?

Thank you LinkedIn for the opportunities to meet people from around the world. And to learn new and interesting things. (Glasses Clinking) Here’s to many more good years.

Here’s the letter.

Dear Ira,

I want to personally thank you because you were one of LinkedIn’s first 100,000 members (member number 11506 in fact!*). In any technology adoption lifecycle, there are the innovators, those who help lead the way. That was you.

We hit a big milestone at LinkedIn this week when our 100 millionth member joined the site.

When we founded LinkedIn, our vision was to help the world’s professionals be more successful and productive. Today, with your help, LinkedIn is changing the lives of millions of members by helping them connect with others, find jobs, get insights, start a business, and much more.

We are grateful for your support and look forward to helping you accomplish much more in the years to come. I hope that you are having a great year.

Sincerely,

Reid Hoffman
Co-founder and Chairman
