To all of the teachers, professors, parents, teaching assistants, teacher aids, caregivers, faculty, staff, and state/county/city/town employees who give so much to children to provide a sound education, a safe community, and a happy place to grow up. Thank you.
How are you celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week, especially if you don’t have any children in school? Spend a moment reflecting back on what you learned from your favorite teachers.
MR. DELCAMPO
This year, I’m thinking about Mr. DelCampo, my drama/theatre teacher. I wanted to be Grandpa in our upcoming High School play, “You Can’t Take it With You.” Mr. D. wanted me to be Mr. Kirby Sr. and for Tim to be Grandpa. Well, Tim wanted to be Kirby. So Mr. D agreed, a little begrudgingly.
My previous role as the Wizard, in “The Wizard of Oz,” was a supporting role. Grandpa was THE main character in the upcoming play. I spent extra time with Mr. D. rehearsing. Rehearsing lines, vocal variety, body language, pausing, you name it. It was very complementary to my Debating Coach, Mr. Height’s, instruction. On opening night, Mr. D. aged a few years prematurely (laughing out loud). The play was a resounding success.
